About your Therapist

Meghan Burns, LPC LMHC

My passion for working with children and teens began during my undergraduate work as a social work intern at a local elementary school. From then on, I found myself gravitating towards all sorts of jobs with children- from afterschool programs, to summer camps, and preschool teaching.

As a mental health counseling intern, I began working with elementary through high school students, and college students. I saw the way ADHD impacted students at various academic levels and the lack of understanding of what ADHD actually is. My passion for working with students and young adults is rooted in our generation’s call for more support and understanding of mental health. Though ADHD may be known by name, it is often misunderstood- telling teens they’re “lazy” is a gross misconception of the neurobiological differences in the brain that impact someone’s ability. I’m passionate about making my clients feel heard, understood, and seen as well as making ADHD a strength, not a weakness.

My work with children through young adults has brought me experience working closely with their families. I have found over the years that one of the most integral and transformative parts of ADHD treatment is parents/caretakers. Parents often come to me saying, “my child won’t do this”, or “why can’t my child just do what I ask”, “I have to repeat myself over and over”, and “I don’t know how to support them.” Having a licensed professional counselor who works in advising families on best parenting practice for ADHD, from exploring research proven strategies, to having a place where your point of view is compassionately understood, can improve the family environment for you and your child/teen.
